  • A team must win at least two matches in a tournament to earn a rating.
  • Players may play above, but not below their current rating.
  • A team must play at the rating of the team member with the highest rating or above.
  • A player's Arizona Volleyball rating lasts the remainder of the year it was earned AND the entire following calendar year.  The player's rating will continue to drop one rating per year unless a new rating is earned. (EXAMPLE: April 29, 2007 Joe earns his AAA.  If Joe does not re-earn a rating, it will drop to AA on December 31, 2008.  His rating will then drop to an A December 31, 2009... a B on December 31, 2010 and so on.)

AZBVA POINT SYSTEM FOR ARIZONA VOLLEYBALL BEACH TOURNAMENTS

The AZBVA points system functions in a dynamic way with the AZBVA rating system to effectively rank the players in Arizona, and was developed to approximate the method of point distribution on the AVP.  In order to determine the total number of points for a given tournament, each player registered for the tournament is assigned a point value.  The point values are assigned as follows: If a registered player already has a "AAA" AZBVA rating, that player is assigned 10 points.  A player with a "AA" AZBVA rating is assigned 8 points.  A player with an "A" AZBVA rating receives 6 points, and a player with a "B" rating or a player with no rating receives 4 points.  These points for all players are then added together, and the sum becomes the total number of points given to the first place team in the tournament (each player on the team receives half the total points).  Once the first place points have been assigned, the second place team receives 90% of the first place points.  This continues as follows: Third place receives 75% of the first place points; Fifth place 60%, 7th place 50%, 9th place 40%, 13th place 30%, and 17th place 20% of the first place points.

To better illustrate the system, the points for the tournament on 4/28/07 were assigned as follows: Because it was the first AZBVA tournament, each player entered received "4" points.  There were a total of 30 players entered into the tourney (15 teams), so the total points given to first place were 120 (30 players x 4 points each = 120 points). Therefore, the first place team of Rico Becker and John Jury received 120 points, each player receiving half (60) separately.  Then, the second place team of Tim Higgins and John Lewis was assigned 90% of the first place points, which figured to 108 (120 x .90 = 108).  The third place teams received 90 points each (75% of 120), the 5th place teams received 72 points each (60% of 120), 7th place teams received 60 points each (50% of 120), and so forth.

This method of assigning points will allow for a larger distribution of points in tournaments where more players are signed up and were a larger number of higher ranked players are signed up.  It very closely models the system used by the AVP in main draw events.  Hopefully this will provide the most accurate method of ranking the players in Arizona.
